How are tufted rugs created
Design Creation
A rug pattern is drawn by hand onto a primary backing cloth.
Primary Backing Preparation
The backing cloth is stretched tightly over a frame so it stays stable during tufting.
Tufting With a Tufting Gun
A handheld tufting gun shoots yarn through the backing fabric, creating loops or cut piles depending on the type of product being created.
Shaping and Detailing
The tufter follows the design carefully, filling in each color section with yarn. The thickness and height of the pile are controlled during this process.
Applying Latex Adhesive
After tufting, a layer of latex glue is applied to the back. This locks the yarn in place so it doesn’t pull out.
Secondary Backing Attachment
A secondary fabric (Anti-slip or felt) is pressed onto the dried latex to provide stability, durability, and a clean finish.
Shearing and Carving
The surface pile is sheared to an even height. Optional carving tools are used to create texture, outlines, or sculpted effects.
Trimming and Edge Finishing
Excess fabric is trimmed, and edges are bound or finished to prevent fraying.
Final Inspection
The rug is checked for consistency, defects, and pattern accuracy before being considered complete
